"Kudakudhinge Hiyaa"

"Kudakudhinge Hiyaa" (KH) is an orphanage located in K.Villingili. MOSS has met with the administration of KH in January 2010 and have discussed on matters how MOSS can be of an aid to KH as well as the orphans who reside there.

As an initial event, what was proposed was to hold an evening social event with the children to demonstrate and introduce the GCompris set of educational applications and similar other set of software available with the Edubuntu collection of addon-ons. The applications will be demonstrated at KH's library which has 4 computers along with additional laptops that members of MOSS are able to contribute for the event.

The event will run through till KH's curfew starting from a favorable time afternoon. Members of MOSS will socialize with the children and teach them the games and software available with the above mentioned packages.

We have also plans to raise a fund to get small OLPC-like laptops that can run GNU/Linux and donate them to the children at KH with educational packages. However, we're currently in the planning of how we can get there step by step.

Update

17 March 2010, 12:15pm

  1. Shifa (ARC) confirms that Shafeeq (KH) and his team will be ready at 5pm today at KH to discuss the event plan.
  2. We shall carry a backup utility, as we did at CiviCom. So that we can recover easily if we need it later.
  3. Everyone of us - I think it's a good idea to learn atleast 3 games from the packages. That way we can distribute the workload and helps to advocate systematically.
